Make Take Your Dog to Work Day enjoyable for you and your furry friend.

How can Friday possibly get even better? This Friday, June 20, you have Take Your Dog to Work Day to look forward to. If your office has agreed to celebrate this awesome holiday by allowing four-legged friends to join their owners at work, there are a few things to remember.

If you know what its like to have a furry best friend, then you can admit at one point in your relationship you might have been blind. It’s very easy to fall into the “my dog can do no wrong” mindset, but let’s face it, at times that’s just not true.

We asked local expert Taryn Hayes, who is the General Manager at Citydog! Club in Addison, how to tell if your pup can handle going to work with you.

“If your dog is mellow, quiet and well socialized,” Hayes said, “then I would try to bring them in to work with you. And I would recommend that the dog is at least a few years old and would be able to lay quietly and patiently while you were working.”

Another thing to consider, not all work environments are created equal. Your place of employment just may not be suitable for your dog.

“An ideal environment would be an office where the dog could be confined and not disruptive to your staff or coworkers,” Hayes said. “Being inside an office or cubicle where the dog could sleep while you work would be ideal.”

Finally, as fun as it sounds to have your dog with you at work all day, she may think otherwise. It might be best to consider altering your schedule to make Take Your Dog to Work Day work best for her and you.

“I would recommend bringing in your dog for a half day after they have had a decent amount of exercise, so they could rest while you worked,” Hayes said. “We have several members that will bring in their dog for daycare in the morning so the dog can play and run around, and then pick them up on their lunch break and take them back to work with them.”
